Sakaja Steps in After Student Dies in Teacher's Hands

Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja on Monday, July 10, promised to pursue justice for the family whose child, a pupil at Wangu Primary School, died under mysterious circumstances at the hands of his teacher.

Addressing the matter, Sakaja stated that the teacher was arrested after the incident was reported and will be prosecuted to serve as a lesson to other teachers who use excessive force on students.

The governor assured the residents that the matter will be handled and justice delivered for the pupil's family.

"I condoled with the parents and pupils of Wangu Primary School after the death of Emmanuel Muiruri Kamande, a pupil at the school allegedly in the hands of his teacher.

"We will pursue justice for his family and parents, Joseph Kamande Muchoki and Esther Njeri. The said teacher is already in police custody and will be prosecuted," he stated.

The student's demise elicited reactions from Kenyans with the majority lauding the governor for taking action.

"I also commiserate with the family. I pray for their solace," David Ouma stated

"Please teachers, learn how to handle issues, rest in peace," Janice Ndanu sympathised

"Good job Super Governor..my heartfelt condolences to the family," another user stated.

Sakaja made his remarks during a tour of Nairobi including Dandora where he visited patients and staff at both Dandora and Dandora II Health Centres and checked on the status of the improved works as well as the level of pharmaceuticals supplies.

"We are putting up a maternity wing at the Dandora Health Centre as well as moving to make it operate 24/7 to serve the populous area," he stated.

Additionally, Sakaja inspected the status of the Dandora Stadium and assured the residents that it will be opened in due time.

"This is a project that we managed to revive after it had stalled for a few years. Our youth and the teams from the area will soon have their home back," he pointed out.

Further, the governor noted that Vocational Training Centers were being repurposed to provide quality training programs.

"We are in partnership with International Computer Driving Licence (ICDL), National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) and other agencies to ensure our curriculum is relevant to the market needs. Was at the Greenlight VTC where I interacted with our students and staff and agreed on measures to improve the quality of training," he emphasised.
