A section of Kenyans, on Tuesday, July 11, was amused by a viral video of a cyclist who had modified his bicycle.

Among many posted on social media, the video captured the Kenyan showcasing his modified bike, which he christened ‘Bicycle Car’.

What astounded the onlookers was that the four-wheeled bicycle comprised a motorcycle sit pad covered by ordinary corrugated iron sheets.

Its interior was padded with blankets, while the exterior was left bare in an effort to minimise accidents.

A non-functioning speedometer was also installed on an assembled dashboard to enhance the bicycles' aesthetics.

However, despite the modifications, the young man noted that he had difficulty operating the machine and was only experimenting and assessing his innovation.

“It is impossible to see the wheels when I am cycling, so it is quite hard when navigating corners,” he admitted.

A majority of Kenyans criticised the bicycle car urging the police to classify it as unroadworthy despite the young man putting in hours of shifts.

“Another way to get to an early grave in the name of innovation. So what happens if you want to turn to the right with other cars behind you?” Maina Kennedy commented, noting the bicycle car lacked side mirrors and indicators.

“It is funny how Kenya is still in the 17th Century,” another tweep sighed.

With the owner claiming that the bicycle car could carry two passengers, many pointed out there was a risk of tetanus infection due to the exposed corrugated iron sheets.

Nonetheless, another section of Kenyans encouraged him to focus on his innovation rather than giving up.

“People will always laugh at you when you think differently. I hope this young man keeps going on. You just never know what is ahead for him,” a Kenyan commented.
