Mavoko Member of Parliament Patrick Makau shared his encounter with the police following his arrest and subsequent release on Thursday, July 13.

Speaking to Kenyans.co.ke, the Azimio La Umoja MP claimed that the detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) were deployed to his Karen residence at 4:00 am and abruptly knocked on his door in an effort to wake him up.

The disruptive nature of the incident not only alarmed his family members but also caused disturbance to his neighbours, who were concerned about his safety.

Police asked the opposition MP to accompany them to Nairobi Area Traffic Police Headquarters near the Kenyatta National Hospital to record a statement on the chaos witnessed in Mlolongo and Kitengela during the mass protests on Wednesday, July 12.

"The officers came in numbers and began knocking on my door and disturbing the area. I opened, and they directed me to accompany them, which I obliged," the MP, an ally of former Prime Minister, Raila Odinga, disclosed.

"They didn't rough me up. I was taken to Nairobi Area Traffic Police headquarters and grilled from 5:00 am to 9:00 am," he added while refuting reports which claimed that he was assaulted.

During the four-hour grilling at the police headquarters, MP Makau was questioned on his role in the chaos which saw the Nairobi Expressway and other critical infrastructure vandalised.

He confirmed that he was directed to report at the same station on Friday, July 14, at 9:00 am. According to the MP, he would comply with the directive as he wasn't party to the violence, which was heavily criticised by pro-government allies.

Makau, however, expressed strong suspicions of a potential political witch-hunt he claimed was orchestrated by the Kenya Kwanza administration.

He wondered why he was the first MP to be targeted despite various Azimio politicians leading the mass protests in various counties.

The lawmaker argued that influential government authorities wanted to make him the scapegoat in light of the prevailing chaos which was also condemned by opposition leader, Raila Odinga.

"Of course (someone is behind this). The question is, why me? After all those protests in Eldoret, Nakuru, and other areas across the country, why me? I'm reading malice. So they want to take me as a scapegoat but let's see what will happen," he lamented.

The Wiper Party politician also criticised Trade CS Moses Kuria for accusing him of allegedly leading the Mlolongo chaos, which was attributed to the eviction of squatters from East Africa Portland land in Athi River.

"I saw the tweet and I'm reading malice in all this. The tweet was very disturbing. I tried my best to fight for the squatters in the land and it has disturbed some forces in the government," he pointed out.
