The number of vehicles in the accident was confirmed to be 20 with at least two fatalities including a renowned pastor and his wife.

Additionally, reports added that over 50 people including 31 students were injured in the night accident.

Two people lost their lives in a multiple-vehicle accident at Acre Tano in Limuru along the Nairobi-Naivasha Highway on the night of Friday, July 14.

According to eyewitnesses, the crash involved trucks, a school bus, and several saloon cars. The school bus was ferrying students from Kayole.

The accident reportedly occurred after one of the drivers attempted to make a U-turn along the busy highway.

The victims were rushed to the hospital for medical attention amid rescue operations. Police officers were also deployed to the scene to control traffic.

"There are more cars on the other side. I am so shocked by this accident especially after seeing the victims," one of the eyewitnesses stated.

Residents complained that the section had become a black spot and urged the Ministry of Transport to take the necessary measures to reduce the number of fatalities.

"The stones between the two highways should be blocked fully to avoid U-turns on a busy highway. That place is a black spot and trailers are always on free gear. You have to speed on all lanes otherwise you will be hit from the back," a resident stated.

The accident happened weeks after a tragic accident in Londiani, Kericho County claimed 52 lives and left others seriously injured.

Following the accident, Transport CS Kipchumba Murkomen announced changes in the sector to curb road carnage.

Murkomen directed that all vehicles should be fitted with dashcams and GPS trackers to keep a record of the vehicle's speed and all the places visited.

"County Governments in partnership with the national government through the intergovernmental framework should construct markets off the Highways," Murkomen directed.

According to data from the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA), 2,124 fatalities were recorded between January and June 2023. This was a drop from the same period the previous year when 2,261 deaths were recorded.
