Former Prime Minister Raila Odinga's bodyguard, Maurice Ogeta, was reportedly dumped along Kangundo Road after missing for over two days.

According to Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Communications Director Phillip Etale, Ogeta was dumped in Ruai minutes past 1 am on Saturday, July 21.

Raila's aide was reportedly blindfolded and unaware of his surroundings when he was dropped off on the highway.

"Ogeta was released from police custody a few minutes before 1 am and driven while blindfolded and left in the middle of the road in Ruai towards Kangundo.

"His car is vandalised. However, he is happy to be alive," he stated.

Etale added that Ogeta was also shaken over the incident expressing that he was still distraught and in shock.

Reports alleged that police officers detained Ogeta at Utawala Police Station. The police and other investigative agencies are yet to respond to the allegations.

On July 20, Raila denied reports stating that Ogeta had been released from detention and emphasised that the opposition was still tracking him down.

"We will leave no one behind. Free Ogeta," the opposition leader demanded.

The release of Raila's bodyguard came hours after High Court Judge Lawrence Mugambi directed Inspector General of Police Japhet Koome to produce the security officer before a court of law.

Mugambi indicated that the directive would enable the family and the court to determine the reasons for his detention

"Pending the hearing and determination of this application inter-parties, a writ of habeus corpus is hereby issued directing the 2nd Respondent (Koome ) to produce Maurice Ogeta before a court of competent jurisdiction in Nairobi or any other Court within the Republic of Kenya for an inquiry into the issue of his detention,” the Court directed

The directive was issued after Ogeta's family filed an urgent motion in court as they sought to know his whereabouts.

Ogeta was arrested on Wednesday morning, July 19, while on his way to work ahead of the nationwide protests led by the opposition.
