Firebrand lawyer Miguna Miguna's aspirations to replace Noordin Haji hit a snag after missing out on the shortlist to become the country's next Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).

The outspoken lawyer's name was conspicuously missing from the 15-name shortlist published by the Public Service Commission (PSC) on Saturday, July 22.

Instructively, city lawyer Danstan Omari made it to the list. Other succesful applicants included; Taib Ali Taib, Tabitha Wanyama and David Kiplagat Ruto.

Jacob Ondari, James Ndegwa, David Okachi and Renson Ingonga also made it to the list.

Miguna had submitted his application to PSC in a bid to replace Noordin Haji who was appointed as National Intelligence Service (NIS) Director General last month.

He was among 48 applicants who were seeking to take over the Haji's office.

While PSC did not give the specific reasons why the lawyer did not make it to the list, it was explained that the list of successful applicants was drawn after careful consideration of all applications.

Miguna declared interest in replacing Haji on July 11 indicating that he would uphold the rule of law if he got appointed.

While responding to online users who broke the news to the lawyer regarding missing out on the post, Miguna indicated that he was still unaware of the development.

"The panel had stated that they would publish all the names of the applicants before shortlisting but it appears they did not.

"Not being shortlisted or appointed was part of the possible outcome of my application and I have no regrets for having applied," he tweeted.

Successful applicants will face the selection panel appointed by Ruto beginning August 1.

Notable faces in the selection panel include Central Organization of Trade Unions (COTU) Secretary General Francis Atwoli and Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) boss Twalib Abdallah Mbarak.
