The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) has recommended the prosecution of politician Cyrus Jirongo and Football Kenya Federation (FKF) boss Nick Mwendwa.
According to the EACC detectives, the two are accused of alleged involvement in a multi-million graft.
Others also recommended for prosecution are the former sports Principal Secretary and two Directors General of the National Industrial Training Authority (NITA).
Files containing the names of the four suspects have since been forwarded to the Office of the Director of Public Prosecution (ODPP) for further action.
Details of the investigations on the accused individuals were published in Kenya Gazette on EACC’s Quarterly Report for the period January 1- March 31, 2024.
Jirongo is allegedly accused of unwarrantedly receiving a Ksh250 million payment from the Nairobi County government in the 2019/2020 financial year.
The Commission noted that Jirongo through a named farm irregularly obtained the money as compensation for a plot of land where public utilities had already been established.
Thus, EACC recommended that Jirongo be charged with conspiracy to commit an offence of corruption unlawful acquisition of public property, and abuse of office.
"EACC commenced an investigation after receiving an allegation that there was a conspiracy to defraud the Nairobi City County Government of Ksh250 million in irregular compensation," EACC detectives noted.
Meanwhile, Nick Mwendwa was accused of the loss of millions that led to Kenya being stripped of the rights to host the African Nations Championship (CHAN) in 2018.
The anti-corruption detectives noted they were probing the FKF boss over a loss of Ksh1.5 billion in a botched tender meant for the upgrade of stadiums that were supposed to host the competition.
Thus, EACC recommended the FKF boss be charged with conspiracy to commit an offence of corruption, abuse of Office, and financial misconduct.
ODPP was also urged to charge Mwendwa with one count of wilful failure to comply with the law relating to procurement.
