Embattled Jubilee Party Secretary General Jeremiah Kioni has revealed that he had to switch off his phone among other tricks to evade police clampdown on opposition politicians during the three-day antigovernment protests.

Speaking on Monday, July 24, Kioni explained that he had his phone switched off to avoid the police from tracing his location, which reports indicate was used to nail other opposition figures.

"I have not used these phones from Wednesday to Sunday to avoid the police who are tracing and chasing people around," he revealed.

During an interview with Spice Fm, Kioni added that he also traveled to Ndaragua undercover in an attempt to avoid the arrests targeted at leaders seen to support the protests.

Kioni also detailed how he went looking for former Mungiki leader Maina Njenga at his Laikipia home minutes after he was arrested by police in a night raid.

"I went to look for Maina Njenga in Laikipia but he was not there. The people were so scared, the sound of a vehicle could send them running for their lives," the former legislator narrated.

Notably, on Saturday, July 22, Kenyans.co.ke, attempted to contact Kioni via phone call and text messages but got no response.

However, Kioni has remarked that he is not afraid of the police, even as they intend to step up the anti-Ruto protests this week.

"I have seen a white Subaru parked outside when I came in. I asked the security guard who it belongs to and he told me it was maybe a visitor at the building. You can never know if it belongs to you or if the owners have other motives," he stated.

The former Ndaragwa MP maintained that the fight for change in the country will not be slowed down by the witch-hunting by the police.

Despite leaders mocking his antics of placing sufurias on the head, Kioni explained that Kenyans were hungry and angry at the current regime for ignoring their cries.

"You know as a society we have a tendency of answering we are okay even when things are bad but people are suffering out here," he remarked.
