Rarieda Member of Parliament Otiende Amollo, on Wednesday, July 26, shared more about the reported visit by Tanzanian President Samia Suluhu to mediate between President William Ruto and opposition chief Raila Odinga.

The meeting, which was kept under wraps until Tuesday, July 25, has elicited debate in the two camps, even as they gear for a series of talks that would mark the end of heightened political rhetoric.

Speaking during an interview on Spice FM, the lawmaker revealed that former Prime Minister Raila Odinga notified his team of Suluhu's arrival in the country and the sole purpose which was to lead talks between the government and the opposition.

According to the MP, the co-chair of the bipartisan committee, some Azimio La Umoja leaders expressed reservations over the meeting, which eventually collapsed after Ruto's camp showed little enthusiasm to engage in meaninful talks.

Amollo declined to reveal the names of opposition politicians who did not support a possible truce mediated by the Tanzanian President.

According to the MP, Raila went to the meeting despite opposition from some key figures in their coalition because he's shown a willingness to engage and address key issues at the centre of the renewed push.

The revelations come a day after the former Prime Minister alleged that Suluhu flew to Kenya, where she stayed for two nights before returning home following a snub from the host president.

Amollo's comments corroborated Raila's remarks that the talks collapsed after Suluhu got frustrated by Ruto's camp.

"Even when the former Prime Minister was going to meet Suluhu, I was with him. Being a person who believes in dialogue, he chose to go," the MP confirmed.

He did not reveal the location and what was discussed during the secret meeting.

Tanzania is yet to officially confirm reports that Suluhu visited Kenya. However, Ruto's faction, issued different statements, with some MPs discrediting the reports as others played cagey.

Amid the confusion, President William Ruto invited Raila to one on one talks, insisting that the duo could meet without mediators. The ODM boss is yet to respond to the invite.
