Residents of Eastleigh, Nairobi County, were on Tuesday, July 25, ambushed by unknown individuals who ordered them to vacate their homes before looting.
At least six armed individuals raided the contested plot despite a court order barring them from trespassing.
According to the residents, the unknown individuals furiously knocked on the windows and dismantled doors disrupting their sleep.
"They were telling us (the tenants) to vacate the plot since it had been sold out. I talked to the owner who stated that the property had not been sold," one of the victims lamented.
Residents added that two weeks ago, the goons came to their homes threatening them and forcing them to leave which prompted them to report the matter.
Following the incident, several suspects were arrested and are exepcted to aid in investigations. The hearing is slated for July 25, 2023.
The locals urged the county government to act promptly because some of them were left stranded and their property was stolen.
On July 18, the Environment and Lands Court barred the private developer and the Nairobi County Government from occupying the land in question.
The incident was reported a day after the business community in Kileleshwa was counting losses following a demolition conducted by unknown people accompanied by police.
In their narration, the locals added that the demolishers were using vehicles with concealed number plates, they were also reportedly armed.
The case was also over a dispute about land set aside for the construction of a market or a school. One of the interested parties in the case had written to the country's government to remove the illegal structures.
