Stanley Makori, President William Ruto's former classmate, made a heartfelt plea on Wednesday, July 26, requesting assistance from the Head of State to secure a job to enable him to support his family.
Speaking during a media interview, Makori fondly recalled their close friendship during their time at the University of Nairobi in the 1980s.
He indicated that after finishing campus, the two drifted off. Makori armed with photos of their school days, reminisced how close he was to the president back then.
“We met in 1987. He (Ruto) was taking Bachelor of Science in Botany while I was taking a Bachelor of Science Double Mathematics,” he explained.
Makori mentioned that he used to hang out with the president as a trio, along with their mutual friend, William Ogoro, who has since passed away.
After finishing university, Makori was employed as a secondary school teacher, a job he left after only one year.
“I switched jobs and joined the banking industry. The career switch was momentary as I was retrenched after just a year,” he revealed.
After years of enduring financial struggles, Makori decided to venture into the taxi business, a job he has faithfully held ever since.
He shared that he had been grappling with bills due to his wife's ongoing battle with breast cancer and the additional responsibility of caring for his elderly mother.
“I wish the President all the best as he continues to serve the country. If I meet him, I will plead for a job to help my wife and mother,” he asserted.
Makori recalled how Ruto used to take them to State House while they were still university students. Ruto used to visit State House on the invitation of former President Daniel Toroitich Arap Moi.
“Ruto loves his friends. We would accompany him everywhere,” Makori remenisced.
