Raila & Uhuru Donate Ksh 2M for Protestors [VIDEO]

President Uhuru Kenyatta and former Prime Minister Raila Odinga donated Ksh1 million each towards the Citizens Emergency Fund launched by Azimio la Umoja on Friday, July 28.

Wiper Party leader, Kalonzo Musyoka, on the other hand, donated Ksh500,000 while the former Defence Cabinet Secretary Eugene Wamalwa donated Ksh200,000 during the memorial service held at the Stephen Kalonzo Musyoka (SKM) Command Center in Karen. 

Kalonzo stated that the money would be allocated to support the families of protesters who lost their lives during the opposition nationwide demonstrations. 

Additionally, those who incurred injuries during the June and July 2023 demonstrations will also be catered for.

Azimio Members of Parliament also supported the fund with a joint contribution of Ksh1.5 million at the memorial service. 

Regarding the pending bills of protesters admitted to hospitals, Azimio announced that some of its governors had waived the medical expenses and pledged to consolidate more support to aid their families. 

Specifically, Governors Gladys Wanga (Homa Bay), Wavinya Ndeti (Machakos), Simba Arati (Kisii) and Anyang Nyongo (Kisumu) were among the governors to support the initiative with the waiver. 

The coalition led by Raila also launched a mobile money platform and urged its supporters to contribute to the the noble course.

According to Azimio, more than 50 people lost their lives during the protest, and several hundred others were injured. However, it is essential to note that the police are yet to confirm the tally. 

Regarding the opposition's Tumechoka.com initiative, Kalonzo announced that over 8.2 million Kenyans had appended their signatures to push for Ruto's impeachment. 

Narc-Kenya party leader, Martha Karua, missed the event after she flew out of the country to attend the International Women’s Conference in Colombia. 

In the conference also graced by Chief Justice Martha Koome, delegates will discuss the special power of women, women’s health and performance in the evangelistic plan, communication and empathy with other cultures, and how to heal and love yourself. 

Meanwhile, Azimio La Umoja will give further directives on the protests on Sunday, July 30.
