The Higher Education Loans Board (HELB) on Tuesday, August 1, unveiled new loan application guidelines for continuing students at universities and Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET).
In a notice, the loans board explained that select students should apply through the HELB app or USSD Code *642#.
HELB urged the students to ensure that the app is updated since it was upgraded following the launch of the new financial model by Education Cabinet Secretary Ezekiel Machogu.
Students must also register using an active phone number with SIM cards registered under their names.
"Enter your first name as it appears on your national ID card, the ID number and a valid email address to complete registration. Click on the loans tab and choose a degree.
"Then click apply on the Undergraduate/Certificate / Diploma second and subsequent loan," read the notice in part.
Consequently, students were advised to read through the loan terms before proceeding to answer the financial literacy questions.
"Select your preferred loan payment option and click Request Loan to view and verify your credit application.
"Click submit to complete the loan application. A pop-up message will appear to show that you have successfully applied. The loan serial number will also be displayed," HELB stated.
The agency assured that it will inform the students on the disbursements of upkeep and tuition loans and other services.
Students facing challenges in their applications were advised to reach out to the loans board through contactcentre@helh.co.ke.
Loan applications will close on September 30.
