A disturbing video circulated widely on Tuesday, August 1, depicted an injured passenger in dire need of assistance.

Reports alleged that a conductor assaulted the passenger after he requested his balance.

The wrangle between the two started inside the bus and escalated outside after the driver parked by the roadside along Thika Road in an effort to de-escalate the situation.

In the video, the passenger was seen gripping the conductor by the collar demanding his money as passers-by gathered to comprehend the origin of their row.

Speaking to Kenyans.co.ke, Daniel Kiilu, a traffic marshall with Sikika Road Safety, stated that the victim contacted him after his efforts to reach out to the bus Sacco proved futile.

The victim told Kenyans.co.ke  that he was assaulted alongside his brother adding that he was forced to seek medical attention after the incident.

"The conductor told me that there is no balance but I insisted that I need my money. I got hold of his hand because he wanted to run away with it," he narrated.

He added that the management did not offer any help despite his plea.

Following the incident, a section of Kenyans online called upon the management and police officers to take action against the tout.

"This is a police case it's beyond the management's powers. Take a P3 medical examination form and start the court process immediately," one comment advising the passenger to seek legal redress read.

However, others wondered why other passengers did not step in to assist the embattled commuter before the situation worsened. They also urged the management to avoid hiring rogue drivers and conductors who harass the passengers.

"If the Sacco does not deal with these few goons in the industry, things will go downhill from here," one suggested.

More road users claimed that they had suffered at the hands of the rogue driver and tout and had even raised concerns with the management.

In one of the incidents that occurred in late July 2023, the driver was accused of feeling from an accident scene after ramming into a vehicle driven by a learner.

Eyewitness demanded the driver be charged with hit-and-run and driving recklessly. Others urged the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) to withdraw the driver's and tout's licenses or audit the Sacco to ensure it complies with traffic laws.

NTSA and the police have yet to respond to the incident.
