Nominated Member of Parliament Sabina Chege has called for a revision of the agenda in the peace negotiations between President William Ruto and former Prime Minister Raila Odinga.
Speaking in Thika on Saturday, August 19, the former Murang'a County Woman Representative revealed that her faction of Jubilee Party will propose stiff penalties for politicians who lead and sponsor anti-government demonstrations that lead to the destruction of property.
Chege noted that the penalties will discourage protests which disrupt economic activity and cause certain towns and cities to come to a standstill during nationwide demonstrations.
She also stated that the former ruling party will also push for a more inclusive government structure to address the winner takes all situation which has been faulted as the main problem driving political friction after every election cycle.
"They are talking about the leadership of the Office of the Prime Minister and the Office of the Opposition Leader. We propose that the Minority Leader positions in Parliament should be taken by the number two (candidate and their running mate) in elections so that they do not feel left out," she stated.
"We do not want to see what happened on the streets again."
The legislator asserted that she, alongside other members of her faction of the Jubilee Party will also push for the adoption of the one man one shilling revenue sharing model which was one of the major proposals of the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) which was declared unconstitutional by the Supreme Court.
She explained that the model will ensure every region in Kenya gets its fair share of resources.
Earlier in the week, the Chege faction led by East Africa Legislative Assembly (EALA) Member of Parliament Kanini Kega had threatened to move to court should the party not be included in the talks.
However, Azimio insists that the former ruling party is represented in the talks as Secretary-General Jeremiah Kioni was appointed to lead the Azimio technical team.
The talks are set to be concluded in the next 60 days with a report submitted to Ruto and Raila for consideration.
