It is often said that love is blind, and some people go to extreme lengths to feel validated and impress the people they have a soft spot for.

One such person is an inmate currently being held at Thika Women's Prison who is currently serving 3 years in jail.

In an interview with a local media outlet on Sunday, the lady, who was a tout plying the Thika-Nairobi route before her arrest, said that while on duty one day, she met a man, and after a while, the duo started living together.

The man wanted to have a child but she was incapable since she had given birth to her 4 children through cesarean section. The lady lived in Githurai 45, Kiambu County with her four children.

According to the woman, she resorted to extremes to create the illusion she was pregnant including wearing baggy clothes. The lady was also getting  money from the man for clinical checkups.

During the interview, she confessed to abducting the child of a woman she was hosting in her Githurai home.

"I took that baby since he wanted a child but I could not conceive so I decided to lie to him," she recalled.

The convict then fled to her rural home in Kabiti, Murang'a County, with the stolen child.

During her time in hiding, she purchased baby food using her phone for payment. Per her narration, she believed this was what led the police to her doorstep, leading to her arrest.

"I did not tell the man about my arrest or why I was arrested until we went to court," she added.

She was later arraigned in court and charged with kidnapping.

During the court hearing, the court heard that the stolen baby's mother demanded Ksh400,000 to sell her baby but the inmate refused to pay.

"She demanded the money claiming that I did not feed the child while in my custody. I do not know why she wanted to sell her child," she stated.

The suspect pleaded guilty and is serving three years at the Thika Women's Prison. Her sentencing came as a shock to her mother who was later involved in an accident and died.

Despite her changing her ways and asking for forgiveness, no one has visited her at the prison. The convict has one year left in her sentence before she is released.

She urged parents especially mothers to be careful with young children who are easy targets for kidnappers and traffickers.
