Narok Senator Ledama Ole Kina has lashed at the Africa Climate Change Summit organizers after a helicopter flew above the Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC), contradicting the theme of the event.

In a video seen by Kenyans.co.ke, a helicopter was seen hovering above the KICC leading to backlash from Kenyans, political leaders and some delegates attending the event.

In a statement, Narok Senator Ledama Olekina admonished the event organizers for failing to ensure that everything revolving around the summit aligned with the primary agenda of the summit which is to ensure countries play their part in protecting the environment.

“Hypocrisy of the highest order! We are here talking about climate change and up above the main hall a helicopter, which is responsible for a significant part of the carbon footprint in the world is hovering over.” stated the Narok lawmaker.

Helicopters, along with other fuel-powered machinery, are recognized as significant carbon emitters in modern society.

However, some online users commenting on the issue observed that the helicopter could have been deployed for emergencies; either medical or security, considering the huge number of VIPs attending the event.

Nonetheless, the event organizers were yet to reveal the real reason behind the helicopter hovering over the establishment by the time of publishing this piece.

Earlier in the day, Ledama had mocked the same event, maintaining that the event organizers should have picked a desert as a venue to align with the event's theme.

“A Real climate change conference should be held in a DESERT like burning man then these talks can stop being talks about nothing!”

Burning Man Project, is an American company known for organising events across the United States in unconvential venues like deserts.

The Africa Climate Summit officially commenced on Monday and has been attended by over 10 Heads of State, VIPs and tens of delegates.

The conference was officially opened by President William Ruto under the theme “Driving Green Growth and Climate Finance Solutions for Africa and the World.”

Africa, home to billions of people is immensely affected by climate change that has negatively impacted the continent.

The primary objective of the summit is to establish a declaration focused on Green Growth and Climate Finance Solutions while also initiating a Call to Action for African Union Member States and their supporting partners.
