Police Clarify on Clearance Certificates Announces Next Step

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations on Thursday announced that the system for processing Police Clearance Certificates has been restored following an upgrade.  

DCI noted that the Principal Criminal Registrar (PCR) has already put in place measures to ensure the clearance of a backlog.

According to DCI, system hitches had forced them to resort to manual processing which led to accumulation of applications from the public.

Regarding the delays experienced over the period, the DCI stated that they were working to clear pending applications.

The DCI clarified that applicants are no longer required to book fingerprinting dates on the e-citizen portal but are required to select preferred places to register their finger prints depending on their convenience.

To avoid cases of return to sender, applicants were also reminded to ensure that the ID card copies attached to the filled application forms were well duplicated emphasizing attention to the thumb print impression.

In expressing commitment to continuous commitment in offering services to the public with dedication, the Investigation department also promised dedication care and integrity in the services.

A Police clearance in Kenya is obtained with certain conditions top being lack of any past criminal records with the Kenya Police department.

When applying for a clearance certificate, your finger prints are run through a system of criminal records and if you have no record, you will be issued with one.

There are several requirements issued for one to start application, including a national ID and its copy for people above 18 years and a birth certificate with its copy for people under the age of 18.

The Kenya Police indicates a maximum period of one to two weeks from the application day before one gets issued with a clearance certificate .

For people in Nairobi, the clearance certificate of can be obtained from the headquarters of Criminal Investigation Department in Nairobi along Kiambu Road in Muthaiga area and for others outside Nairobi their certificates can be obtained from DCI offices in various regions.
