The family of a 12-year-old girl was left in shock after their missing daughter was found dead beside a road in Gilgil, Nakuru County on the night of Tuesday, September 19.

The discovery came after an hour of searching for the girl who had been kidnapped on her way home.

Simon Mwangi, speaking to Kenyans.co.ke on Wednesday, revealed that the young girl was assaulted before her body was dumped beside the road.

By the time of publishing this article, no arrests had been made in connection to the incident.

"They believe whoever took her was a person she knew. She was possibly tricked to follow him to the thicket," he said.

According to the reports, the young girl left school on Tuesday, September 19, at around 4.30 pm after which she was abducted by unknown people.

Hours later, the parents began to grow suspicious, as their daughter being out so late was highly unusual.

This prompted them to organise a search party comprising of friends and neighbors. Tragically, a few minutes after 7 p.m., they discovered her lifeless body by the roadside.

Upon receiving the news, the police swiftly arrived at the scene to gather evidence and gather information from both the family and those in the vicinity.

Her body has since been transported to the morgue, with a post-mortem examination scheduled for Thursday.

"She was only 12 years old, a Grade 6 pupil, and she had her bright future brutally taken away. May our Lord grant you eternal peace and bring those responsible for this horrific act to justice," Mwangi added.

Gilgil MP Martha Wangari in a statement condoled with the young girl's family and appealed to the police to hasten investigations.

The MP revealed that she is working with security agencies to ensure the suspects are apprehended and charged for their crimes.

"Yesterday at Kasambara, this lovely bubbly girl breathed her last in the hands of a murderer. May her family find peace and may her soul rest in peace," she added.
