Kikuyu Police Station has announced plans to place vehicles and motorcycles on auction if their owners fail to claim them.

In a Gazette Notice dated September 6, 2023, the police station gave the owners an ultimatum of 30 days to pick up the vehicles.

The statement noted that there were three vehicles and 29 motorcycles left idle at the police station's grounds.

"Notice is issued to the owners of motor vehicles, motorcycles and scrap metal which are lying idle and unclaimed within Kikuyu Police Station, to collect the said motor vehicles, motor cycles and scrap at the said police station within thirty (30) days from the date of publication of this notice," read the notice in part.

"Failure to which Astorion Auctioneers, Nairobi shall proceed to dispose of the said motor vehicles, motorcycles and scrap by way of public auction on behalf of Kikuyu Police Station if they remain uncollected."

However, the prices for the auctions were not included in the notice.

Details of the vehicles were also included in the notice to enable real owners to claim their cars.

The police have increasingly grown concerned of abandoned locomotives over the past year, most of which are nabbed in routine patrol or traffic searches.

As recent as November 2022, Muthangari and Kiambu Police Stations carried out a similar exercise after cars remained uncollected at the stations for a while.

Carried out by the same auctioneer, the vehicles had been unclaimed for a long time.

Other than the cars, the auction will also feature impounded motorcycles and scrap metals.

Before the auction, Astorion Auctioneers invited owners of the vehicles to pick them before the exercise begins.

Buyers of the auctioned locomotives were advised to first repair the vehicles before hitting the road since they have stayed in the yard for a long time.
