Three people reportedly lost their lives following a grisly road accident on Saturday morning along Southern bypass, Nairobi County.
The accident, which occurred at the Karen exit near Ngong Forest, was attributed to a truck that lost control and rammed into a personal car.
In photos shared widely, the personal car was crumpled and deformed, with its glasses shattered along the highway.
It was also pushed from the bypass into a nearby drainage, with eyewitnesses claiming it rolled over several times.
Emergency service providers rushed to the scene to attend to the bodies of the deceased, which were ferried to a nearby morgue. It was yet to be clear whether there were any survivors from the carnage.
Police were yet to arrive at the scene of the accident by the time of publishing this article.
The carnage comes barely a week after Transport Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen made an impromptu visit to the highway to assess repairs.
Motorists and other road users complained about the influx of road crashes on the bypass since engineers from Kenya National Highways Authority erected new bumps.
Some bumps, they lamented, were raised too high, impeding drivers' efforts to control the vehicles. The motorists also faulted the lack of proper road signage and indicators along the busy highway.
"If you intend to use the Southern Bypass, exercise caution observing low speed because huge bumps were raised overnight sending some vehicles off the road and hitting into each other. Accidents have occurred unfortunately some fatal," lamented a motorist.
In response, Kipchumba Murkomen ordered the deployment of police officers to man the road and curb road carnages.
Kenya National Highways Authority (KENHA) also urged motorists to exercise caution while using the Southern Bypass in Nairobi following a series of accidents resulting in deaths.
Data by NTSA reveal at least 21,760 people were involved in road accidents last year, an increase of 1,135 compared to 2021, where 20,625 people were involved in road crashes.
