Traffic police officers have been deployed to the Gitaru Area of the Nairobi - Nakuru Highway following a Friday morning accident.
Reports indicate that a truck transporting unrefined oil overturned along the busy highway creating a heavy snarl-up.
The spot, which is a junction joining the Southern Bypass to the highway, also affected traffic feeding into the Nakuru-Nairobi highway from the equally busy bypass.
Shortly after the crash happened, police officers and a fire brigade were deployed to the area to guide traffic as traffic jams built up fast.
It was not clear whether the accident resulted in injuries or fatalities by the time of publishing this story.
The police, however, advised motorists to take caution when approaching the area.
The accident comes barely a month after another truck transporting unrefined edible oil overturned at the same spot in mid-September.
At the time, Kikuyu Deputy Police Commander Evan Mosee told the press that the truck was transporting the commodity from Mombasa to Uganda.
When the crash happened, residents of the area rushed to grab the commodity but were warned against consuming it since it was yet to be refined.
"This oil is unrefined, I plead with residents not to use the oil because it can cause health complications," the deputy commissioner stated at the time.
Road crashes have continued to increase with the latest National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) records showing that 2,124 people lost their lives in road carnages between January and June this year.
Incompetent and unfit drivers were blamed for the increase in fatalities, a majority of whom were pedestrians at 571 followed by motorcycle operators with 449 casualties.
