Francis Murigu, an accountant who was homeless for 23 years and lived in a cave, was found dead in his new home just after he moved in September.

Murigu gained online fame in May after it was discovered that he had lived in a cave with his son for over 23 years in Makuyu Murang'a County.

The deceased was a former accountant who was abandoned by his wife and kids except for the one son who kept him company in a cave in Murang'a.

Wellwishers came together and built a house for him in a project that was backed by MC Wanyoike wa Mugure who mobilised money online.

Part of the funds were also used to take Murigu to the Mathare Mental Hospital for mental evaluation and treatment, where he spent time until September 11.

Murigu moved in with his son on September 14 in a colourful ceremony organised by well-wishers.

The new house was a two-bedroom blue-themed house with a wooden ceiling and a modern kitchen.

Mugure ensured the house had a toilet and bathroom, clay stove, and other facilities for the man's comfort.

As fate would have it, his stay at his new home was short-lived after he was found dead in his room by the son.

The MC shared the news online condoling with the family of the deceased.

"My heart is broken I am just heartbroken. He slept during the day when his son went to wake him up but he was no more," Wanyoike remarked.

A section of Kenyans have mourned the elderly man who was slowly starting to live a normal life.

Philanthropist Karangu Muraya condoled with the family of the old man adding, "Sad that after my younger brother Wanyoike Wa Mugure did a great job to transform the life of this man Murigu, he has rested".
