KNUT Boss Collins Oyuu Appointed to Kenya National Qualifications Authority

Education Cabinet Secretary Ezekiel Machogu has appointed Collins Oyuu, the Secretary-General of the Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT), to serve as a member of the Kenya National Qualifications Authority (KNQA).

In a Gazette Notice on Friday, Oyuu, along with four other individuals, has been appointed to the authority for a three-year term.

The other appointees include Michael Kuria, Commission for University Education Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Jacqueline Mugo, Federation of Kenya Employers CEO, and Kipkirui Lang'at, TVET Director General.

Their primary responsibility in this new role is to enhance the quality of national examination standards in Kenya.

This appointment is significant as it coincides with the preparation of secondary students for the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) exams, which are scheduled to take place from October 23 to November 24, 2023.

The Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) and the Kenya Primary School Education Assessment (KPSEA) are set to begin on Monday, October 30, and conclude on Wednesday, November 1.

In other appointments, President William Ruto appointed geologist Sophia Kutiti to serve as the chairperson of the Mineral Rights Board for three years. 

In her role, Kutiti will provide administrative support to Mining CS Salim Mvurya, including tasks related to granting and revoking licenses and allocating areas for mining operations.

Further, Ruto has reappointed Professor Justin Irina as the Chancellor of Murang'a University of Technology for a five-year term.

Labour Cabinet Secretary Florence Bore appointed Timothy Ruhiu Irimu as a member of the National Council for Occupational Safety and Health for a period of three years.

Chief Justice Martha Koome appointed Nickson Wanjau to the Auctioneers Licensing Board, with a term of three years commencing from October 23, 2023.
