The Judicial Service Commission (JSC) has announced a vacancy in the Office of the Chief Registrar of the Judiciary as its current occupant Anne Amadi's term draws to a close.
In an advertisement published on Monday, the Commission revealed that Amadi's term is set to lapse in January 2024.
In the advertisement, the Commission indicated that the successful applicant will serve a 5-year term, specifying that the tenure will be renewable depending on performance.
The office is responsible for the overall administration and management of the Judiciary and its holder will be expected to perform the judicial functions vested in the office of the Chief Registrar by law.
They will also be expected to exercise powers vested by virtue of any regulations and give effect to the directives of the Chief Justice.
All interested candidates have until November 13, 2023, to apply for the position.
Amadi, who has experienced a rocky run, assumed the position in January 2014 taking over the reins from former Chief Registrar of the Judiciary and current National Assembly Deputy Speaker Gladys Boss Shollei.
At the time, only 12 candidates applied for the position which saw the commission re-advertise since the initial round was deemed to have attracted very few applicants.
Following the re-advertisement, the commission settled on Anne Amadi as the preferred candidate.
“The commission shortlisted a total of four candidates that were conducted on 11th January 2014 (and) appointed Anne Atieno Amadi as the Chief Registrar of the Judiciary,” read a statement by the then Chief Justice Willy Mutunga.
