The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) has issued a warning to motorists plying the Isiolo-Marsabit Highway regarding a flooding incident at the Logo Logo area toward Marsabit.
According to KeNHA Director-General Engineer Kung'u Ndung'u, the affected area, located 68 kilometers from Merille River, experienced flooding due to heavy rainfall in the Karare and Korr areas on Wednesday morning.
As a result, a section of the road has been reduced to a single lane, necessitating drivers to use only a specific part of the road.
"The public is advised to exercise caution when driving along this road both during the day and at night," Engineer Ndung'u advised.
"Motorists are encouraged to allow water to subside before crossing the affected area."
KeNHA Director General confirmed that the Authority's officials are on site to ensure the safety of motorists.
The news comes amid questions over the accuracy of the Meteorology department's prediction that the country would experience El Nino rains which were initially projected to begin in October and last until December 2023.
However, weeks later, Kenya Met rescinded its earlier projection, saying that heavy rainfall would only be experienced in several parts of the country including the Highlands East of Rift Valley and North Eastern Kenya.
"High average daytime (maximum) temperatures of more than 30 degrees Celsius are expected over several parts of the country including the Coast, North Eastern and North Western Kenya," Kenya Met stated.
"A few areas in the Highlands East and West of the Rift Valley, the South-eastern lowlands and the Rift Valley will experience low average night-time (minimum) temperatures of less than ten degrees Celsius."
Following this, President William Ruto noted that the agency had relayed to him that the country would not experience El Nino rains as earlier projected.
"We heard reports that the country will experience El Nino rains, which have the potential to destroy property. But God has been faithful," Ruto stated during a church service in Riruta on Sunday.
"We have now heard the meteorologists saying that will no longer be the case. We will just have heavy rains. We thank God."
