The prime suspect in the murder of Nairobi Hospital Finance Director Eric Maigo on Thursday pleaded guilty to the offence.
While appearing before Justice Kaanyi Kimondo, Anne Adhiambo pleaded guilty to murder, just weeks after the prosecution told the court she was an adult of sound mind and could stand trial.
Judge Kimondo, however, directed her to consult with her lawyer so as to get an understanding of her plea.
"I am giving you more time so that you can consult your lawyer and get an understanding of what you have told the court," the judge directed.
"In the interest of justice, I have given her time to consult with her lawyer before taking plea again."
The suspect will be held at Lang'ata Women's Prison pending the next plea taking.
Kimondo referred the matter to the Kibera law courts with the case set to be mentioned on November 8.
Maigo was found dead at his home in Woodley Estate on September 15 with police launching a manhunt for the suspect who was captured on CCTV jumping over the fence.
After days of search, the suspect was arrested in Kibera by detectives drawn from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI).
The motive behind the murder of the finance officer is yet to be established.
Maigo was buried on September 29 even as his father, Zebedeo Onchari, refuted claims that his son would have caused harm to anyone.
"He is our son and we know him. I cannot imagine what wrong he could do to anyone for them to murder or eliminate him. Because we know that he was a kind person, we believe that is what killed him," he stated at the funeral.
