A senior police officer stationed at Brooke Police Station in Kericho County was on Tuesday assaulted by a junior colleague after he accused the latter of misusing the station's property.
According to a police report filed under OB 09/31/10/2023, the incident unfolded when Police Constable Gideon Kipng'etich called Senior Sergeant Caleb Manani, seeking to find out why he had accused him of using the station's computer for personal reasons, which later developed a technical fault.
During the call, Kipng'etich demanded Manani to substantiate his allegations.
The police report indicated that Kipng'etich requested Manani to meet at the police station and justify his claims.
Upon his arrival at the police station, the senior sergeant confronted Kipng'etich, leading to a heated argument between the two officers.
During the altercation, Kipng'etich pushed Manani to the ground and began punching him in the face. This caused injuries to Manani's mouth and nose.
Subsequently, the injured officer was rushed to Kericho Referral Hospital for treatment.
"During the scuffle, he damaged the station printer (Epson) L3110 worth Ksh30,000. The injured officer has been rushed to Kericho Referral Hospital where he has been treated and discharged in stable condition," read part of the police report.
Officers from Brooke Police Station have since initiated an inquiry to investigate Kipng'etich's conduct.
The investigations will aim to establish whether the officer violated the provisions of Section 64 of the Police Act, which requires all officers to adhere to the Standing Orders and the Code of Regulations for the duration of their service.
If the officer is found to be at fault, he will be subjected to disciplinary proceedings as outlined by the National Police Service (NPS).
