The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has exposed a new trend that is being used by kidnappers targeting young men.

In a statement released on Thursday following the arrest of two suspected kidnappers in Kitengela, it was noted that the kidnappers are using ladies to lure men on dates before handing them over to the kidnappers.

Citing the kidnappings which occurred on October 27,  the investigative agency revealed that a lady working in cahoots with kidnappers used a stolen ID to register a phone line.

She later approached two university students and booked a date with them at a common entertainment joint in Nairobi.

However, when the two young men aged 21 years old arrived for the date, they were handed over to two kidnappers who drove them to a hidden location in Kitengela.

Police indicated that the Kidnappers had also rented a house on Airbnb which they used as the kidnapping venue.

According to the DCI, the kidnappers then made a call to the parents seeking a ransom of Ksh6 million to facilitate the release of the students.

This prompted the parents to report the matter to the DCI which involved the Crime Research and Intelligence Bureau detectives to track down the suspects.

"Relentless search for the victims finally paid off when the terrified hunger-stricken duo was reunited with their kin, but not without a lesson of the existence of masquerades who will do anything for money.

"An imitation of a pistol, a dagger, subscriber sim cards used to contact the parents," read the statement in part.

Also recovered by the detectives were two fake number plates that have been booked into evidence.  Police believe that the suspects used the plates to avoid being traced during the incident.

DCI added that the suspects were being grilled with a manhunt launched for their female aide.

The police indicated that their tool line 0800 722 203 operates  24/7 with Kenyans asked to be weary of such incidents.
