Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) detectives on Tuesday arrested a man in critical condition, suspected to have been involved in various crimes in the past.

In a statement, the DCI revealed that detectives found the man at his home in Makongeni, Thika nursing multiple gunshot wounds.

During the operation, the detectives recovered a Ceska pistol from the suspect believed to have been stolen from a civilian firearm holder in Kahawa Sukari in January 2023.

The DCI remarked that detectives had pursued the injured suspect to his home following a tip-off from members of the public indicating that an unknown person had been sprayed with bullets near the Thika Level 5 Hospital on Monday by a drive-by assailant riding in a Toyota Probox.

Upon arrival at the suspect's home, the detectives found the badly injured man in a bad state prompting them to rush him to hospital.

“Efforts by medical officers and the police to identify the patient proved futile when no identifying document was found on him and, though he could speak, expressed unwillingness to give his name,” the DCI said in its statement.

Following this, the officers initiated a forensic ID process that provided his name and later traced his place of residence to an apartment in Kiganjo, Makongeni.

A search at the suspect's house led to the recovery of the Ceska pistol loaded with 15 rounds of ammunition which according to the DCI, was hidden under the carpet.

According to the DCI's statement, investigations revealed that the shot suspect may be familiar with his attackers.

The DCI further stated that the two parties had allegedly engaged in an altercation over a previous engagement before the shots were fired.

The DCI revealed that on the same day, 2 suspects on a robbing spree stole from 3 civilians at Landless Section 2 at gunpoint.

The victims lost mobile phones and money in the incident. At the time, they were visiting the site of a parcel of land they had purchased.
