The National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) has announced that it has completed the printing of smart driving licenses (DLs).

In a statement on Thursday, NTSA confirmed that the smart DLs were ready for collection and invited applicants to pick them up.

“We urge our esteemed clients to collect their smart DLs from the center identified during the application process.” read part of the notice.

The agency advised the applicants to carry their national IDs which will be used for verification before the documents are handed over to them.

“Visit the nearest NTSA office or send an email to disqueries@ntsa.go.ke” the statement read.

The smart DLs will be available at the respective offices where the applications were made.

According to NTSA, processing smart DLs usually takes 5 working days after a user initiates the application process.

Further, according to the regulator, the processing of the smart DL usually takes three to four weeks after an applicant's photo and biometrics have been provided.

This comes even as the country transitions into the digital era phasing out the traditional booklets.

NTSA introduced smart DL in 2017 as the government looked to comply with international standards in driver licensing and identification

The smart license enables the enforcement of a traffic order and simplifies the process of paying immediate fines.

The system aims to identify and penalize reckless drivers, thereby improving road safety.
