Motorists found themselves stranded on Mombasa Road on Sunday as a result of a trailer accident that led to traffic disruption.

Reports indicate that the trailer overturned in the Makindu-Kiboko area, obstructing both lanes and causing a prolonged standstill for numerous drivers.

The situation escalated as some frustrated motorists resorted to overlapping, further complicating the traffic flow and creating chaos on the busy road.

As a result, motorists were stuck on the stretch for the whole night.

In response to the incident, local police officers intervened by establishing a roadblock in an effort to restore order.

Their primary objective was to facilitate the removal of the overturned trailer and normalize traffic conditions on the affected stretch.

“It rained until late in the night and we could not manage to remove the trailer. Many spent the night here,” an officer on the ground told journalists.

The heavy downpour experienced in the area further worsened the situation by making it even more difficult to remove the trailer from the scene.

The snarl-up happened ahead of President William Ruto's visit to Makindu in Makueni where he was expected to lead the country in a tree-planting exercise.

Most public service transport companies took to social media to apologize to passengers for delays and warn them to expect more disruption.

''We kindly request you to exercise patience as relevant authorities work to resolve this," the Tahmeed Bus Company advised in a statement.

The bus company further told its customers to expect disruption in travel schedules due to the heavy snarl-up.

''We would like to inform you that most routes will experience delays tomorrow Monday 13th November, as a result of a road traffic accident along the Mombasa-Nairobi highway between Masimba and Kiboko area,'' the Tahmeed Bus Company further advised.

''We kindly request your patience and apologize for any inconvenience that may arise as a result of the delayed schedules,'' Dreamline Express also told its passengers.
