Teachers in Nyandarua disrupted traffic on Wednesday morning while protesting over the death of their colleague whose body was mutilated and dumped in a thicket.

John Nginge, a teacher at Kahoka Primary School, was initially reported as a lost person, only to be found dead a week later.

Led by officials from the Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT) Nyandarua branch, the tutors complained that insecurity in the county was rampant, posing a danger to their lives.

Some of the teachers dressed in KNUT colours walked on foot, and others rode on boda bodas while carrying placards.

"Haki! Haki! Haki! Justice! Justice! Justice!" The teachers, who were accompanied by students in their uniforms, chanted.

“We condemn brutal murder, and we demand justice,” one of the teachers who addressed the media added.

The teachers lamented that their efforts to push for a full investigation into Ngige's death were frustrated by unidentified individuals. The said people were accused of barring an inquest into the teacher's demise.

To address the issue, the striking teachers demanded the Directorate of Criminal Investigations in Nyandarua look into the alleged murder and enhance security in the county.

Despite being reportedly dismissed by authorities, Nyandarua teachers further demanded answers into the death of Ngige and his killers arrested and arraigned in court

They also issued an ultimatum to DCI, warning that they would hold more protests with parents and students if their grievances were not addressed.

Reports indicated that police launched investigations into the death of the teacher and pledged to release a preliminary report. It was yet to be clear whether a postmortem was conducted to ascertain how Ngige died.

In a similar case, a pastor who went missing was found mutilated and dumped in a dam in Sasumwa Dam, Nyandarua two months ago.

Prior to his disappearance, the deacon received a phone call from unknown people. His body was found two days later, several meters from his home.
