Embattled Governor Kawira Mwangaza on Thursday stated that she was willing to ask President William Ruto to dissolve the Meru County Government.
The first-term governor lamented that she was being frustrated by Members of the County Assembly (MCAs) who she said have made it impossible for her to deliver on her mandate.
Governor Mwangaza alleged a sinister plan by the MCAs to impeach 12 County Executive Committee (CEC) members serving in her government.
According to the county chief, the MCAs have been exploring different ways of frustrating her following two futile attempts to impeach her.
On November 9, the Senate voted against impeaching Mwangaza with a majority of the lawmakers shooting down all 7 allegations leveled against her by Meru MCAs.
According to the Kenyan Constitution, a County Government can be suspended by the President under exceptional circumstances such as internal conflict or war.
Should President William Ruto cede to Mwangaza's request, the County Government will be suspended for 90 days.
Following the lapse of the 90 days, the Governor and all MCAs will be required to seek a fresh mandate from the electorate.
Sources who spoke to Kenyans.co.ke indicated that the embattled governor had agreed to support signature collection towards kickstarting the dissolution exercise.
Kawira was elected as Governor as an Independent Candidate having previously served as the Meru County Woman Representative.
If the Meru County Government is dissolved, Mwangaza will be free to defend her seat as an independent candidate or run on a political party of her choice.
Notably, she has in the past shown a willingness to work with the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) led by President William Ruto.
