Atwoli, who has served as OATUU president since 2013, was re-elected due to his vast experience and deep commitment to advancing the rights and interests of workers across the continent.

Following his re-election as the OATUU President, Atwoli is set to lead in addressing pressing issues facing workers in Africa, including job security, social protection, and the promotion of decent work.

In his acceptance speech during the ongoing 12th Congress of OATUU in Algeria's capital, Algiers., Atwoli expressed gratitude for the support he received from fellow trade unionists in his third term.

Atwoli further vowed to work relentlessly to strengthen the collective voice of African workers on the international stage.

OATUU, which was founded in 1973, is the only African trade union organization that represents all the trade union interests in Africa.

The Trade Union has 60 affiliates across Africa, with a total membership of about 25 million people.

Besides his role as the OATUU President, Atwoli is also a member of the International Labour Organization (ILO) Governing Body.

Recently, he led trade unionists from the continent in securing a vote to seek a resolution from the International Court of Justice (ICJ) over a long-standing dispute between workers’ and employers’ representatives on the right to strike.
