A British man is looking for retired athlete Cosmas Ndeti who lost his trophy in the late 90s after winning a marathon.
The man on Monday narrated how Ndeti went to England to celebrate the accomplishment after winning the 1993 Boston Marathon but lost his trophy in the process.
Per his narration, the Briton stumbled upon the trophy and kept it safely waiting for Ndeti to look for it. However, he lamented that over the years, he had not established contact with Ndeti over the matter.
He added that he would be travelling to Kenya hoping to meet the athlete who has since become a pastor. The foreigner wants to return the trophy to its rightful owner.
"I am coming to Kenya soon, I was going to try to get to Kitengela to get in touch with him, " he stated.
Ndeti had yet to respond to the foreigner's request by the time of publishing this article.
Cosmas Ndeti was a renowned athlete in his heyday with an outstanding track record before he was banned for alleged doping. He has since become a priest.
In the 1990s Ndeti became the first African to win three consecutive Boston Marathons. During this period, Ndeti was invited by former US President Bill Clinton to be part of his jogging routine.
Ndeti received over Ksh30 million after winning the 1993, 1994, and 1995 editions. He also bagged major deals with corporate partners and sponsors.
The athlete's career was however cut short in 1998 after he was banned for doping. Ndeti however claimed that he got sick and was given some medication which he ingested without knowing its ingredients.
He later turned to the ministry after a vision from God and he has never looked back.
Ndeti is not the first Kenyan athlete to be banned for doping, others who have been accused of the same include Titus Ekiru, Michael Njenga, and Daisy Cherotich among others.
Sports Cabinet Secretary Ababu Namwamba has called for assistance from the Judiciary to help deal with the menace in the industry.
"We have asked the Chief Justice to give us special courts that will deal with these cases," he added.
