Nairobi Police Commander Adamson Bungei has asked motorists planning to ply Lang'ata Road on Tuesday to drive with caution.

In an address to the press on Monday, the police boss indicated that the authorities expect a heavy snarl-up along the highway linking Bomas of Kenya to Mombasa Road due to the planned Jamhuri Day celebrations.

As a result, he explained that the state is gearing up to deploy traffic police officers along the stretch to control the traffic.

The event, which celebrates the day Kenya became a Republic, will take place at Uhuru Gardens.

"It will be the gateway to Uhuru Gardens. Those with intentions of using that road should think twice," directed Bungei.

The Interior Principal Secretary Raymond Omollo, in an earlier address to the press, estimated that 30,000 people are expected to attend the event.

To enhance security, therefore, officers attached to both the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) and the National Police Service (NPS) will be deployed.

The traffic along Lang'ata Road is also expected to worsen since Tourism Cabinet Secretary Alfred Mutua announced that all citizens will access Nairobi National Park free of charge.

Mutua explained that the directive would enable Kenyans to go and enjoy sightseeing activities while marking the 60th Jamhuri Day.

"In commemorating our 60th year of independence, the government proudly announces free entry for Kenyan citizens to all national parks and museums on Jamhuri Day, December 12, 2023.

"This initiative aligns with our collective pride in being Kenyan and our desire for everyone to relish the gifts bestowed upon us by nature," he announced.

Mutua's directive will also cover marine parks, animal orphanages, and the Safari Walk.
