Motorists will have to dig deeper into their pocket for National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) services such as car inspection fees.
On Monday, NTSA unveiled the second draft of the Financial Sustainability Study for National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) which proposed doubling motorvehicle inspection fees for cars below 3000CC from Ksh1,000 to Ksh2,000.
Those owning vehicles above 3000CC will see their fees increased from Ksh1,000 to Ksh2,500.
Speaking to the press, NTSA board member Paul Posh justified the increase explaining that the reviews were long overdue, some of which remained unchanged for 10 years.
He further noted that the increase is expected to boost NTSA revenue by hitting the Ksh500 million mark.
"Our proposed financial improvement in terms of capacity is a long-term improvement because the rates that we have have not been reviewed for the last 10 years. Services have been increasing yet the rates have remained constant. That is why we have asked that we adjust," he stated.
