A police officer attached to Central Police Station in Nakuru County was arrested after fatally shooting a barmaid in an altercation at a local club.
According to a police report obtained by Kenyans.co.ke, the officer began quarrelling with the maid after he declined to pay a Ksh16,000 bill for the drinks he had purchased.
The altercation attracted the attention of other revellers, who also confronted the officer, demanding he pay the bill.
Seemingly aggrieved by the situation, the intoxicated officer fired his pistol towards the crowd and fled the scene.
As a result, the barmaid succumbed, with multiple gunshot wounds on the pelvis, abdomen and chest.
Three more people, a woman and two men, also sustained gunshot wounds.
"The three are admitted at Provincial General Hospital (PGH) Nakuru in serious condition," read part of the police report.
The body of the deceased was transferred to Jack's mortuary in Nakuru, awaiting post-mortem.
Additionally, Nakuru Crime Scenes and Investigations (CSI) officers processed and documented the scene.
Later on, officers attached to Kaptembwa Police Station embarked on a search for the suspect and located him a few metres from the club.
He was arrested and booked at the station, awaiting arraignment in court.
A Jericho pistol with two rounds of 9-millimetre ammunition and six spent cartridges were recovered.
