Several Nairobi estates will face water disruptions for 24 hours following an emergency shutdown of the Sasumua-Kabete pipeline.
In a notice on Thursday, the Nairobi City Water and Sewerage Company stated that the repair works will begin on Friday, December 15, at 7:00 am and end on Saturday, December 16, at 7:00 am.
The areas to be affected include areas around the International School of Kenya, Kinanda Valley, Kihingo Valley and Magnolia, Waiyaki Way, and James Gichuru Road.
Areas along Dennis Pritt Road, Lang'ata Road, Peponi Road, Kikuyu Road, Naivasha Road, Mbagathi Road and River Side Drive will also suffer water shortage.
The whole of Lavington, Kilimani, Westlands, Parklands, Loresho, Kangemi, Uthiru, Karen, and Kawangware were also included on the list.
Others include areas along Riruta, Lang'ata, Kibera, Dam Estate, Kileleshwa, Nyayo Highrise, Ngumo and Woodly Estates among others in the adjacent areas.
"The aim of the shutdown is to facilitate repairs of major leaks along the pipeline which if not contained, will lead to major landslides resulting to more damage to the pipeline," read part of the notice.
The utility firm advised Nairobi residents set to be affected by the shortage to use water sparingly during the period of interruption.
"Whilst every effort will be made to restore the water supply, we request all customers in the affected areas to use their stored water sparingly during the period of interruption."
Nairobi Water is tasked with the responsibility of managing water and sewerage services in the capital.
Part of its strategic plan includes reducing the gap between demand and supply of water and sewerage services in Nairobi.
