Several passengers were stranded in a local airport after experiencing flight delays that lasted over 6 hours.

Videos circulating online showed passengers with luggage stranded at the airport, with some surrounding the counter awaiting feedback.

The affected passengers were travelling from Nairobi to the Western and Coastal regions.

Some complained that the flight was delayed from 8:00 am, with the next available flight at 3:30 pm.

It was reported that the local airline informed stranded passengers that the 3:30 pm flight had limited slots, amounting to only 19 seats while the rest were informed that they would be booked at 7:00 pm.

"As a passenger on the ground, I can confirm this. The situation is very bad as no response is yet to be given. Our kids are tired, hungry and crying. Nothing is well," one passenger complained on his X platform.

"In Mombasa, I received an email of a delay when I was at the airport. I reached Nairobi past midnight to a verbal exchange with a taxi driver because of the price set on its app to my destination," another lamented.

Other users questioned why the passengers would opt for air travel during the festive season, noting that someone who travelled by road would have arrived within the same waiting time.

"Someone who uses a car would have arrived in Mombasa from Nairobi within those seven hours and some opted for the flights, especially at a time when they are fully booked during the festive season."

Speaking to Kenyans.co.ke, a source privy to the matter explained that the airline was booked to capacity for the entire day and the next flight would be available the following day.

The source, however, did not divulge further information about the incident.

The airline had not issued a statement by the time of publishing this article.
