Several other passengers sustained injuries, and are currently receiving treatment at various hospitals around the area.

The Bodies of the deceased were moved to Shalom Hospital Mortuary.

This comes hours after another accident was reported in the Tegero area along Narok-Bomet County early Monday morning, around 1:15 am.

A rise in the number of accidents involving long-distance matatus has raised alarm on the roadworthiness of the vehicles, as passengers request relevant authorities to take action.

The National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) on Friday 5 launched a crackdown on vehicles along Thika Road to curb road accidents from unworthy matatus ahead of school opening.

"All vehicles should have a road service license and must undergo inspections. Without it, we will arrest them and they will face the law," one of the traffic officers warned.
