Kenya Medical Supplies Authority (KEMSA) Chief Executive Officer Andrew Mulwa was on Friday named the winner of the African Governance Award at the ongoing African Governance Conference in Mauritius.
Mulwa was also awarded for guiding KEMSA to be the most outstanding medical supplies authority across the continent.
"We are delighted to inform you that you have been confirmed as a winner of an African Governance Award under the 2024 edition of this unique annual awards scheme," noted Baroness Paulette, the Africa Governance Awards organiser.
"This confirms you as one of the leading lights in Africa’s ongoing political and socio-economic renaissance and presents you to the world as worthy of international public acclaim as a standard setter for public institutions across the continent."
According to Baroness, the selection of a winner which he termed as the most comprehensive and credible involved nomination by the African public, authentication of the nominees in regards to their conduct, performance, and impacts, and ultimately an expert assessment.
"Based on our quantitative scoring model applied by both our consultants and subsequently our Jury of experts, you achieved the highest score amongst the nominees in your category," read a statement by Baroness.
"For clarity and avoidance of doubt, we have attached to this correspondence a detailed Concept Framework which explains the rationale and modalities for the execution of this award scheme inclusive of awards eligibility and selection criteria as well as the selection process itself."
The ongoing event which began on January 7 and is scheduled to end on February 10 is considered one of the largest gatherings of high-profile public officials in Africa and it also involves the participation of leaders from countries outside the continent that have close relations with Africa.
"Thus, the event presents one of the biggest opportunities ever for both public sector and private sector chieftains seeking networking opportunities to establish strategic alliances and partnerships and to consummate transactions such as contracts, and financing arrangements," Baroness denoted.
"The awardees themselves will be present as well as several other top-tier government functionaries, as well as politicians, corporate/institutional executives, traditional rulers, and civil society leaders wishing to lend their support to awardees."
The Ministry of Health also lauded Mulwa for the award, affirming his efforts in streamlining the medical authority.
"These accolades acknowledge Dr Mulwa’s outstanding contributions to public governance, enhancing Kenya’s prominence in Africa’s political and socio-economic realm," the Ministry of Health remarked.
