Boy Orphaned After Father Killed Entire Family Seeks Financial Help to Join Form One

An orphaned boy from Makueni County has reached out to wellwishers to help him join secondary school. 

John Sila was orphaned in 2013 when his father killed the entire family and after that, committed suicide. 

In the incident that attracted national attention then, the father killed his wife, plus the boy’s grandmother and sibling. 

Sila who survived the tragedy was taken in by Deliverance Church in Kambu, Makueni County where he was fully sponsored through primary school.

He performed remarkably well in the 2023 Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) scoring 363 marks out of possible 500. 

The young boy due to his good performance earned placement at Makueni Boys High School but is unable to report due to financial constraints. 

Speaking to a local station in the area, the boy stated that his dream was to become a doctor. 

The young man is currently staying at a children’s home in Thange Ward in Kibwezi Sub County. 

A fee structure seen by Kenyans.co.ke showed that Makueni Boys' school fee per year is Ksh53,000. 

This is broken down to Ksh26,777, Ksh16,066, and Ksh10,711 for the three terms. 

Sila is expected to offset the Ksh26,000 for term one before admission. 

Education Cabinet Secretary Ezekiel Machogu has announced that all Form One learners should start reporting to their respective secondary schools starting on Monday, January 15.
