Parents of 2023 Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) candidates who studied at Narok-based Oloisonkoyo Primary School on Wednesday defied a directive from Education Cabinet Secretary Ezekiel Machogu and the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) not to man-handle school heads over poor performance in the just released 2023 national exams results.
The parents raided the principal's house demanding his resignation over poor results in last year's exams.
It was reported that the demonstrating parents caught the school principal off-guard, throwing his belongings out of the government-assigned residence before chasing him out of the school.
Speaking to the press, the parents stated that the principal was solely to blame for the abysmal results in the 2023 KCPE exams.
Parents alleged that the principal spent most of his time farming instead of improving the school's performance.
"Instead of being on a break or learning our students are weeding or digging in his farm. We want him to go," one parent stated.
In the results announced in November 2023, almost all the students had 100 marks out of a possible 500 denying them a chance to join their preferred high schools.
The parents also complained that the school only had six teachers who were strained by the number of students in the school.
"We are asking the government to increase the number of teachers here or close down this school and let us farm here," they pleaded with the Ministry of Education.
Last week, CS Machogu warned that law enforcement officers would deal with any parent caught manhandling school heads over poor results.
Machogu directed parents to escalate their grievances concerning the results to the Kenya National Examination Council (KNEC).
He further argued that the learners were also at fault for the poor results. The CS further revealed that the Ministry was reevaluating some teachers to ensure they can deliver.
