Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja has advised city residents to be cautious of persons claiming to know how to bypass the county revenue collection system.
In a statement, the governor noted that the fraudsters were seeking to have city residents pay for services in cash instead of completing the payments via the authentic digital platform.
He maintained that the county was no longer accepting cash payments for any services rendered by the devolved unit.
Therefore, he called on residents to be vigilant should they be approached by anyone including unscrupulous county officers.
As a result, Sakaja announced that his administration was putting in place measures to enable Kenyans to report such incidents to allow his government to follow up and institute disciplinary action.
"I would like to inform Nairobians that we do not accept any cash payment for our services.
"In fact, if any of my Revenue team members ask for payment in cash or purports to be able to assist outside of the system that we have put in place for revenue collection please report them," he stated.
Such reports can be made through the phone number 020 7247047 or channeled through the email address governor@nairobi.go.ke.
The governor made the remarks after the Ethics and Anti Corruption Commission (EACC) raised alarm over malpractice by some county officials.
Sakaja referenced an incident where two revenue officials were arrested for producing fake receipts and receiving bribes.
The county recently digitised all payments for services through the NairobiPay platform.
Some of the services offered through the platform include; payment for parking fees, business permits, and land rates among others.
