Three residents from the Makungi area, Kinangop in Nyandarua County died after a truck lost control on Saturday along the Ol Kaou-Njabini Road.
Seven others travelling in the vehicle sustained severe injuries following the accident.
The truck ferrying timber lost control and crashed on the side of the road. Due to the accident's sheer impact, the timber was scattered on the road.
According to eyewitnesses, the truck was rushing to deliver the timber to a nearby household. Grapevine had it that officers had stopped the vehicle from accessing a facility managed by the Kenya Forest Service (KFS).
Residents rushed to the scene of the accident to rescue the victims while police manned the traffic thereafter.
Additionally, some well-wishers residents attempted to load back the timber inside the truck and push the truck down the main road.
Elsewhere, two students died in Kisii County after a driver also lost control of his vehicle, killing all occupants.
The two female students were set to join university.
These are among the numerous accidents which have been reported in January with over 30 Kenyans losing their lives and others sustaining severe injuries.
Data from the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) revealed that pedestrians accounted for most fatalities as of January 7.
Motorcyclists were the next most affected road users followed by passengers, drivers, pillion passengers and pedal cyclists.
As of January 7, 508 road accident victims had been reported, the majority of those affected were categorised as seriously injured (234), slightly injured (190 and 84 fatalities.
