CCTV cameras captured the moment just before an overloaded pickup rammed into a 14-seater matatu which lost control and nearly hit pedestrians.

The incident reportedly occurred in Banana Kiambu County resulting in a huge commotion as residents rushed to the scene.

According to the footage, after the matatu was hit in the rear, it veered off the road driving into a nearby local market, and barely missed the pedestrians on the way.

The pickup on the other hand also lost control and followed behind the matatu while the logs on top scattered on the ground.

One of the residents was crossing the road when the matatu came speeding.

His attempts to escape the danger were futile as he was thrown into a nearby drainage.

Luckily, he survived despite some of the logs from the pickup falling into the drainage. He got out after the two vehicles stopped.

Another local near the incident was a boda boda rider who fled and left the bike after seeing the two vehicles approaching.

He was seen speaking to a client when the accident occurred with the woman also running to safety.

The locals rushed to the matatu and could be seen opening the doors to remove items and aid passengers who were on board.

The rear part of the 14-seater was damaged due to the impact but it was not immediately clear what caused the pickup to lose control.

This is yet another incident that has happened in a crowded area, shining a spotlight on the country's traffic laws and highway codes.
