A 60-year-old woman was murdered and her body found dumped in a coffee plantation in Kahiro village, Kirinyaga County.
According to witnesses, the woman’s body was found dumped in the plantation, with Ksh 1500 left in her pocket.
The Assistant Chief in the area, noted having received a call from village elders in the morning informing him of the body and also confirmed that the incident happened on Saturday evening.
It was reported that unknown assailants accosted the woman on her way home killing her and dumping her body just 500 metres away from her home.
Confirming the incident, the Assistant Chief noted that the assailants were only interested in killing the woman, seeing that the Ksh 1500 she had was still intact in her pocket.
Residents spotted the body while collecting firewood and notified the family, of the incident.
The family who registered their shock at the incident called upon the government to investigate the matter.
“I was shocked to see my sister Wambui killed and the cabbages she had gone to buy strewn over the place,” the victim's sister stated.
Kahiro residents have also condemned the murder citing that this is the second incident within a short span as a police officer was killed in the same area.
They have also called upon the government to regulate alcohol selling and bar ownership in the area, as they have linked it to the insecurity within the region.
“There was a young police officer killed at the scene, today, it is a woman. The things happening around Kirinyaga are not good and even as the government issues licenses to alcohol sellers and bar owners, they should consider these regulations”, a resident cited.
The killing is one among the many femicide cases that have been reported in the country this year only.
Femicide cases where the victims have passed away in unclear circumstances have been recorded in the country leading to Kenyans staging demonstrations to shed light on the matter.
