Police officers in Kiambu County on Tuesday morning arrested a man suspected of killing his 8-year-old son in Ndenderu on Monday evening.
According to police reports, the suspect is believed to have premeditated the murder such that he waited for the moment when his child was coming back from school and grabbed him just before he entered the gate.
The man, who had separated from his wife before the incident, then broke into the home where he committed the heinous act.
Speaking to journalists after the tragic incident, the suspect's estranged wife further revealed that the man would then attack the house help as she reportedly tried to jump to the young boy's defence, stabbing her multiple times.
The house help had screamed for help attracting the attention of neighbours and the wife who was relaxing in another room within the same house.
As narrated by the wife, the man then slashed the boy’s head killing him on the spot.
Attempting to escape, the suspect fell into a well and broke his leg, where the neighbours retrieved him awaiting the police to arrive at the scene.
His wife managed to escape unhurt and recorded a statement at the police station in Ndenderu to aid with investigations.
The injured house help was taken to Kiambu Level 5 Hospital where she is receiving treatment, while the body of the boy was taken to Kihara Hospital Mortuary.
Police have launched an investigation into the incident to ascertain the events leading to the boy's murder.
In another incident on Monday, the body of a 20-year-old woman who went missing two weeks ago was found in Kinare forest, Lari, in Kiambu county, with her clothes torn and covered in blood.
Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) detectives have launched investigations into the matter, noting that the woman was likely raped and killed somewhere and her body dumped in the forest.
"We have started investigations to establish what happened, whether she was raped, how she was killed and how the body was brought to the area,” Lari sub-county police commander Adamson Furaha told journalists.
